Re: Factory Made Taper Tracer Attachment

Hello

Just mild steel and brass, straight out of the scrap box.
I can't look at my lathe at present, but I think you may be referring to the holes for the threading gauge.

Re: TDS metric/imperial or imperial/metric screwcutting.

Hi I have looked at this option but I found that the cost of having gears cut was eye watering. As with the casting, it would be more cost effective for a group of people to place one order for multiple gear sets. I now have a second lathe that cuts metric and imperial threads so I won't be taking a...

Re: TDS 1/1 G.B.L. drivetrain modification

Hi I have retained the factory link belt between the headstock and the lower intermediate pulley shaft. The poly vee belt goes between the motor and the intermediate shaft. There are photos already posted in the Denford forums. It would be a major job to run the poly-vee belt all the way to the head...

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1 GB Drawing No 35

Hi
Some time ago I purchased a piece of polycarbonate sheet (shatter proof) to make a chip guard. I just haven't got around to making it yet. Too many other projects.

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1 GB Drawing No 35

Hello
I am sure that future generations of Denford TDS owners will appreciate your efforts.
A very useful reference. Much more information that is usually available for any lathe.

I didn't know that Denford made a chip screen. One of the few Denford accessories I don't have.

Poly Vee Pulley

Hello Another small project finished. This is a poly-Vee pulley for another VFD lathe conversion and is made of mild steel. This is the forth pulley I have made so I am refining my technique with each one. I rigged up a pretend DRO to accurately space each groove. Each groove was cut by turning each...

Re: 280vs lubrication.

Hello Hydraulic oil is a good choice for the gearbox. It's only available in 10litres drums here so I use non-EP gear oil. EP lubricates erode yellow metals. I am about 99% certain that gearbox does not contain any bronze. The gearbox is so lightly loaded that just about any lubricant would be OK an...

Re: 280vs 3 phase conversion

Hello I don't know how relevant my experience with a TDS is to the 280VS. The drive arrangement looks completely different so you will need to make your own assessment of suitable pulley ratios. The Viceroy TDS had a mechanical pump belt driven off the end of the 4-step pulley (which made it 5 step)...

Re: Denford Viceroy TDS VSD conversion

Hello Here is a close up of the upper control panel. I made a cardboard mock-up to test appearance and ergonomics. The panel was mounted on a stand over the hole for lamp. All of the cabling goes down through the inside of the headstock. All of the VSD controls a fully remoted so there is no need to...

Re: 280vs 3 phase conversion

Hello I settled on 75mm to 130mm for the poly-vee sheaves. The linked Vee belt drive pulley was 94mm dia. If I did it again I would go for 75mm to 150mm to give more torque. I don't believe a lathe can have too much torque. I think you will find that by the time you discard the redundant electrical ...

Re: Denford Viceroy TDS VSD conversion

Hello The control panel was something I designed and made specifically for the Viceroy. I am using an ABB ACS50 drive. This is a small industrial unit, as opposed to the cheap economy (hobbyist) units. The ABB motor is also an industrial grade. Unfortunately this grade of equipment is expensive. I w...

Re: Denford Viceroy TDS VSD conversion

Hello

I am converting my other lathe to VSD and have fitted a 3 phase/4kW/ 220VAC motor.
It's only taken a year so far.
There is no Nardini forum on the web so I won't be posting progress on this anywhere.

Retrofitting Spindle Digital RPM meter to a Viceroy lathe

This means good update times even at low rpm. They are available in red and blue. I fitted a blue one to the Vi...

Re: 280vs 3 phase conversion

If you three phase motor is dual voltage, changing the connections from Y to Delta for ...

Re: TDS 1/1 G.B.L. drivetrain modification

Hello I have implemented option 2 on my Viceroy but I retained the link belt drive to the spindle. Link belts are very good at absorbing shock loads. It would also be difficult to modify the spindle end to take a poly-vee belt You can see my efforts here: Youtube - Denford Viceroy VSD Conversion Bel...
