I can`t remember what we did on the PNC 3 Control.

Is there a menu that comes up if you press the "T" button once the axis have been datumed. From memory it then asks if & where the tool change is fitted.

The other thought is that it may run of the Auxillarys.

Hi Chris, After looking at your pictures & a Denstep card in our factory, it does not support the 4th axis. I have confirmed this with Technical. Sorry for getting your hopes up. You can still fit the Aux`s though. The other option is to upgrade to the USB Next Step top card with VRMilling ver 5. Re...

Both version 2 & 5 will support the 4th axis.

To enable it you need to go to the "Machine Capability" section in the "Machine Setup Parameters" window. You can then enable the IV axis near the bottom of the screen.

Hi Chris,

There are a couple of ways you can go with this.

1. Retro fit a aux in/out.

2. There is a header on the control card that will output step & direction signals to a 4th axis drive. you can then control it through the VRMilling version 2.

Hope this helps.

Rename the offset file on the start up disc. Instead of the 4 numbers save it as the same name as the software you are running. It will be "FANUCMD" or similar. It may be easier to do this on another PC.

It sounds like you have a Triac PNC3. Does it have a small monitor in the centre of the control?

Have you tried performing a tool change without any tools both in the ATC & up the spindle? It will first try to remove the old tool so the carousel needs to be empty.

Have you got both of the comms leads connected to the ATC control box? I remember there were 2 leads to connect to the underneath of the atc electronics box to the PNC 3 control. What happens when you datum the machine? Does the ATC Arm drown down & then back up as the machine is performing the Datu...

Don`t touch the switches. I presume you have air to the machine. The main pressure regulator needs to be set to about 6 Bar. The second one inside the box needs setting at 1.5 Bar. This is the one that aligns the spindle after orientation. I f you can`t get it working as is then connecting it a PC w...

You should be able to turn the shaft manually by placing a large screwdriver down the shaft where the gear box locates. One way backs the toolpost up against the adjustment screws & the other will spin the turret paceplate. I am not sure which way is which. You should also be able to split the motor...

This machine sounds as if it is a Triac ATC with a PNC3 Control (North East Electronics) & therefore may not be able to accept individual M codes for the toolchanger.

Hi Charles, It may be something as simple as the arm in micro switch that is sticking or broken. Does the tool drop out before the arm is in position? There is a small micro switch on top of the slide that tells the control when the arm is fully in. You will need to remove the ATC cover to get to it...

There are normally 2 grub screws jus behind the face plate.( both have locking nuts). On the earlier machines there was only one fitted. The other thing to do may be to remove the four screws holding the motor & gearbox to the aluminium body(the motor wires will pull out slightly) & try turning the ...

I guess that this machine has been upgraded from dos to VR Milling at some stage. 1. Check that the spindle speed overide pot is set to 100%. If the machine has been updated to a next move card you may find that there is only a small sweep on the pot where the overide is effected. (If this occurs a ...
