Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Thanks for your help - I have tested the fuse on the Sprint 1200 spindle board and it is OK. However I cannot find the other fuse you mentioned... There is no black cap near the board terminals as far as I can see. Which terminals are you referring to? The TRIAC is 1995 vintage. I have tested all th...

Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Hi, OOPS  my Triac PC spindle drive is broken - my fault - drove the mill to a zero point which was through 50mm of aluminium! Stopped the mill before it got very far but then the spindle would not restart, Forward or Reverse (M3 or M4) - the emergency stop came on and I had to use the overrid...

Re: Quickcam 2D only allows =>10% step down of tool diameter

Hi, The version or VR Milling I have is V2.31 and I could not find the .MAT file. Are they Quickcam files or VR milling files, and if VR milling are they only for V5+? Or have I not found them? (I searched the C drive for *.mat and only found them in the VR Milling V5 directory - I cannot use V5 as ...

Quickcam 2D only allows =>10% step down of tool diameter

Hi , Quickcam 2D will not allow me to have a lower rate than 10% for step down in the material editor section - is there a way of getting around this? I am cutting a 31.75 diameter hole in an aluminium block and want to use a 17mm end mill for stable cutting. The lowest depth cut would mean 1.7mm pe...

Specifying circle radius or diameter

Using QuickCam 2D to cut circle depth 1mm and width 2mm in aluminium, radius outer is 44.33 mm and inner is 42.33 mm - could use a lathe, but felt that the CNC Mill would enable me to repeat the process as I would like to make several parts with this same setup. Using the drawing tool for circles - ...

Re: Triac PC (1994) - random operations and spindle stops

Thanks - OK, understood. A differential A+, A- is for twisted pairs and the drivers/receivers are not differential - so there would not be a benefit in putting A+ as signal and A- as ground for a twisted pair.
I will get an appropriate cable made up, using the shield as ground.

Re: Triac PC (1994) - random operations and spindle stops

Thanks for your answer. I believe that the cable is an original Denford, and I will look to see whether the handshaking has been implemented. And also, I will make up a heavy duty cable, with lots of earthing to remove any interfering noise... Do you think twisted pairs with one of the pairs, for ea...

Triac PC (1994) - Spindle speed and feed rate changes

Hi, The only controls on my TRIAC PC are the emergency switch and an override switch. I notice on some TRIAC's that they also have spindle speed and feed rate controls on the front panel. - The VR Milling V2.31, in the 'auto' tab box has Spindle speed and feed rate controls, but these are blanked ou...

Triac PC (1994) - random operations and spindle stops

Hi, - My Triac PC using Eurostep RS232 card (Red LED) and VR Milling 2.31 will occasionally do some random movement, usually after milling for some time. It gets bored :!: and decides that it will try a diagonal cut for about 50mm. This has ruined a couple of work pieces already  - Sometimes al...

Re: Any suggestions for a CAD file viewer?

This company offers what I think may be a well featured 2D CAD, I am learning to use it at the moment! But it does not appear to have .TCW extension capability. However it is free so if you can get your TurboCad drawings into DXF or DWG you may be able to use it. www.DoubleCAD.com

TRIAC PC RS232 cable - free to good home...

My Denford TRIAC PC (1994) came with a spare RS232 cable. It has a couple of nics in the plastic sheath. However I have tested it on my TRIAC and it works great. So if you would like a working RS232 cable with the 25 to 9 pin adaptor please contact me and I can arrange to post it at cost. Note that ...

Re: No activity from Eurostep RS 232 - 1994 Triac PC Mill

This is what bent pins on the Harting connector look like. This caused the errors above and I hope has not caused any other damage! With care the pins bent back to their near original position, though I was somewhat apprehensive at bending them - a broken pin on that connector would not have been we...

The TRIAC specifies BP CS 68 lubricating oil. I am having difficulties locating a small quantity to replace the oil in my lubrication system. Re: No activity from Eurostep RS 232 - 1994 Triac PC Mill

Exactly!!!! Not one but 3 pins were bent  They may have been bent when I got the machine or I probably bent them! One of the bent pins went to the x-axis motor - so no wonder the motor did not know where to turn. Looking at the plug wasn't something I could easily do as the mill was wedged ag...
