Nice video.

Is that a stepper or a servo machine? Original controls or a retrofit?

When I get a min will post some vids of the starturn at work.

Hi Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I've been working on a major overhaul of my cnc mill (re-machined ways, fitted ballscews etc) so I haven't had much time outside working and sleeping!! The way I started my conversion was to get a single axis going. In the downloads section you will fi...

Well I've never seen a lathe with the rev counter before - I would have thought that was an addition by a previous owner. Quick thought, are you turning the machine off between saving a tape and trying to open saved file. Also could there be something else on the tape - i.e. a file that is too big t...

Hi Guys I think there is a secret army of retrofit Orac's and Triac's being built out there!! :P I think the motors are either 3.1A or 3.8A. From memory you can see the motors for the Z and Y and they are unpainted so you should be able to read the specs - you might need a mirror though! You could r...

if anyone can come back to me with any info as to whether it is genuine or not What do you mean by genuine - it looks like a normal orac. What is the Heidenhain ME101 - never heard of it before. Regarding the tape drive there is a good chance that it may not be working - they don't seem to have las...

Hi Rob Glad to hear you got it working - the controllers can be a bit strange at times. I don't know of a specific problem with general turning, I suspect with threading that if the speed is too high then the electronics cannot keep up. You could try using the 'general' calculations for feed and spe...

Hi Jim Alastair Clarke who can sometimes be found on here is currently converting his Orac to Gecko's so he might be able to help. What info are you after? I would have thought that 1/2 steeping would be best as this is normally recognised as giving the best torque delivery. The turret is a bit more...

If you look at the link I posted above it should link you to copies of the software, i.e - "http://www.denfordata.com/downloads/dos/OLD_MACHINE_SOFTWARE.zip Quote: This ZIP file contains... In all honesty, it would probably be a lot easier just to use the normal transfer software. I developed some software in VB a number of years ago and it took a long time to get it to work - primarily due to timing issues, and then the program download was a lot slower than the original software. Don...

You certainly could. Toolchanger would probably be the most difficult part of a Mach conversion as you may need to build some electronics along the way. There are a variety of ways you could do it. e.g Using individual parallel port pins on a second port Use a microcontroller Use something like the M...

If it is a PNC3 controller then it should basically be the same as the Triac. You might want to try using the Triac software. There si some software here - http://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=196 Actually there is easimill software in there as well. If that doesn't work then I would check t...

Hi I take it your machine is missing its ID plate? My guess would be about 83 - allthough that may be the date it was ordered and not actually made. When the spindle stops have you tried presing spindle start or spindle stop then start? Can you tell us when exactly the spindle stops? I presume you'v...

Hi Steve Glad to hear it is working - may have been a loose connection. To honest whenever I have stopped the machine I have always re set the offsets. The orac loses out because you can't actually see the DRO's. No need to buy any software - just go here - http://www.denfordata.com/downloads/dos/OL...

Hi Big Bear A xylotex will just about do you from memory as I think they support upto 3A. You may be better to go the slighly more expensive gecko route and allow you to upgrade in the future. The spindle motor should be 3 phase - there should be an inverter in the machine - may be a Barry Wright Pa...

Bloody hell - sounds like you've got quite a collection there. Probably best you open it up and have a look at the stepper drivers - should be some lights on them showing the status. THere are also some fuses on the PSU. We seem to be getting a lot of dead stepper drivers in here at the moment - may...

The machine continues to move - that doesn't sound good. Does it do it when you enter the main menu - you shouldn't be able to move the tool when on the main menu. Does it still move when in manual mode? I'm wondering whether you may have a problem with the membrane keyboard and the machine is stuck...

Lying round the shed - you have these sort of things lying round - don't let me near there - I would be in heaven!!!
