Re: 280 VS gearbox sync issue .Dial incorrect?

Stucapri170, In case you weren't already aware of it there is the Electronic Leadscrew controller project already available, see http://autoartisans.com/ELS/ and http://medw.co.uk/wiki/ELS+Price+List . It might save you time re-inventing the wheel and allow you to get on with other projects. I have ...

Re: Orac auto toolchanger dismantling

I'll have to answer my own question now that I know the answer, the code wheel is not positively located just a snug fit and no gotchas. I stripped the toolchanger and cleaned it of old dried congealed grease and fettled a few bits like the pawl which was burred, it looks to have done some work but ...

Re: Easiturn 3 Tripping House RCD

Consider getting a sparky in to check the system it's plugged into. I recently had a problem with my inverter TIG welder tripping the RCD when it was switched on, not when the arc was initiated, and the TIG welder checked out perfectly, turned out the RCD had gone bad. The welder pre-dated the house...

Re: senior mill with R8 spindle

I saw this topic earlier and thought it worthwhile adding a reply. My neighbour has a Tom Senior Light Vertical mill, looks like it from http://www.lathes.co.uk/senior/page6.html , and he converted it from the 2MT it came with to R8 maybe 6 to 8 years ago. He thought it worthwhile due to the more pl...

Orac auto toolchanger dismantling

I've recently acquired an Orac auto toolchanger and it looks to have been disassembled and not put back together fully, lots of loose screws. It seems a mechanically simple device to disassemble and reassemble but I was wondering if there are any gotchas. I removed the rear plate and the centre scre...

Re: Upgrading TRIAC PC Mill

I am planning to do a similar conversion using a CNC4PC C11G BOB likely mounted to the box where the current DB25 is and trying to utilise the existing stepper drivers and hardware on my June 1995 Triac PC. I intend to also make plug in replacement boards to get the signals from the BOB to the backp...

Re: Routine Problem

I noticed the discussion about USB to RS232 converters and they can run reliably at 115k baud as I used to work on an application that did so and effectively streamed data back from an instrument to a PC at that rate. The caveat that one had to remember after the driver install is that it defaulted ...

Re: parts lists, bearings

I've seen the quill section drawing before on the forum and it shows 3 bearings. My Triac, despatch date June 1995, would seem to have only the lower 2 bearings as the quill stops just above the timing pulley. I've not seen that arrangement shown in any drawings on the forum.

Re: Viceroy Sharpedge gearbox and platter assembly

I expect they're not interchangeable but the one on ebay would have served as the basis for a new conversion. Currently I've cleaned the extension shaft above the gearbox and what I thought was rust pitting was actually a hole with a grub screw in it packed with rust and abrasive. I'll remove it lat...

Re: Viceroy Sharpedge gearbox and platter assembly

I've now gotten the platter addition off and am wondering if you have any information about how the wheel arbor is fixed onto the Radicon gearbox. Maybe it's pressed in?. Having largely dismantled the gearbox it was full of an oil, water and silicon carbide slurry. The bearings are toast but the wor...

Re: Viceroy Sharpedge gearbox and platter assembly

Yes that's one of the common BMC applications that occurred to me also. Whether the internals differ any due to the use pumping oil I don't know, the oil would be thicker than petrol and IIRC the lever compresses the spring which pushes on the diaphragm drawing fluid into the pump and when the lever...

Re: Viceroy Sharpedge gearbox and platter assembly

The Sharpedge is not actually mine but belongs to a local glass blowing school nearby where a friend had it converted about 8 years ago. The pump was removed after the conversion to the flat lap, the lap is currently used for grinding features on glass pieces such as the bases. Having said that the ...

Re: Viceroy Sharpedge gearbox and platter assembly

Many thanks for the prompt reply to my query. Although the PDF listed as 12/16 assembly shows the smaller Sharpedge the first leaflet you posted does have a drawing of the larger machine which I am looking at. From that in can see that the 10" or so plate is not original. If I can assume the larger ...

Viceroy Sharpedge gearbox and platter assembly

I've been asked to repair a Viceroy Sharpedge where the spindle seems to have come loose and rocks from side to side and was wondering if any section drawings of the gearbox and platter assembly are available so I might be able to work out how the assembly is put together. To slightly complicate mat...
