Re: Dummies guide

This guy had a MIRAC with V1.47 on the box, he had issues with the RS232 set up but got things running using the DOS control.

Re: Dummies guide

Don't think I've ever seen an idiots guide as such for any of the DOS software, much to my frustration when I was getting my Starturn up and running on DOS. I have put together links to info I could find from what I could remember when I was going through it. The Generic DOS turning manual is here h...

Re: VMC 1300 Pro spindle won't turn

Good stuff! I've not done anything with these machines but know that feeling when you put out the cry for help and you don't get any back quick enough. Just taking the time to do the post can sometimes be enough to get the grey matter in gear :)

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.

I am wondering is there any reason to keep this running 3 phase, could it not be converted to single? The control voltage is listed as 24v, lights as 110 only the motor as 415 3 phase, depending on how its wound most motors can be changed to single. I haven't looked at the diagrams, but it might be ...

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.

You can find some info on this part of the forum, I looked here viewtopic.php?f=33&t=3823 and saw 20amps I thought with it being 3phase it would have been lower

Re: New Cyclone - need phase converter advice.

Have you looked in the manuals for the power specs? I have a feeling that may be missing a decimal point, and should read 2.6A what motor does it have in it? That's a beck of a lot of horses

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect

If you have a PC that is running XP you can run a windows DOS window within that or possibly DOSBox on win7. Did the machine come with a 'tutor' keyboard'? DOS systems use them. there is some info here http://www.denfordata.com/pdfs/mirac_pc_600dpi_hq.pdf on running DOS. I think you need to try the ...

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect

Just a thought and Martin might be able to confirm this as a means of proof. Have you tried dloading and running the DOS control software, http://website.denford.ltd.uk/dos-vintage-machine-information/ You will need to set up the FANUCSLD.GO file (example below but would need to be what is needed fo...

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect

The eproms are erased by UV light when the window is exposed to it. So keep it covered, the stickers we used were a metal foil to prevent the UV penetrating. It has probably been fine as the machine will have kept it in the dark. In the 80's / 90's I used to have access to erasers, readers/writers s...

Re: New guy, old lathe, advice please!

Hi, Ive had 'the guy' on ebay do a nut for my Boxford TUD. I sent him my old unit and the screw as he said he would try and make it fit as best as possible. It is evident that my screw is worn as the new nut shows less back lash at the section not used much. Worth doing to get it to a more usable st...

Re: Denford Novaturn Desktop Tutor

Hi yes, given the age on the plate and the fact you still have the desktop tutor keyboard it looks like it will be a DOS based control rather than the VR Turning windows based software. A lot of machines had the control boards updated to run on VR Turning so getting a look inside the box would prove...

Re: Denford Novaturn Desktop Tutor

I have seen them sell from between £200 and £1500 depending on what the control is. If you post up a pic of the insides of the back box and the the label on it it would help. All depends who is in the market and where you are.

Re: Spindle speed incorrect.

Hi Max, I have seen various posts over time on spindle speed issues (not sure which machines though). The problems have been from various issues, faulty encoders, VFD issues and spindle motors demagnetising. Have you downloaded the wiring diagrams? I know the speed controller on the micromill, micro...

Re: CNC electronics textbooks/reading material

Where abouts are you? I am about to start upgrading a Starturn 5 to Novaturn specs. If you are looking to replace the control on that rather than pulling it to bits we could maybe work something out.

Let me know

Re: MIRAC. ERROR 128.

Ohh I had hoped you had it sorted. No I was trying to say I hadn't felt put down and just wanted to show I wasn't trying to teach you to suck eggs. For VR2 I think there is a patch so you don't need a dongle but you do need a licence file though. When I was researching my Starurn 5 (not common) I fo...

Re: MIRAC. ERROR 128.

It's always difficult to judge peoples experience with systems and hard not to discuss the best way to suck eggs :) having said that that other point of view can often bring a moment of realisation.

Martin is great with digging out amazing bits of history. let us know how it goes!
