Re: Orac spindle drive problem

Your voltage reading are fine and you've proved that the board has all the necessary power supplies. 5.2V from the 7805 is OK, it's the fact that it's stable that counts. I haven't worked out all the inputs to the board, but the outputs all go to the Spindle Speed Controller board which I believe ha...

Re: Orac spindle drive problem

I've traced the power wiring back to the regulator board. The two supplies are +12V and -12V.

Re: Orac spindle drive problem

I have located the drawing. I'll have to work out how it interfaces with the other circuit boards. It would be useful to check the power supply voltages on the board with a meter. Between terminals 2 and 3 of Terminal Block 1. Between terminals 2 and 1 of TB1. Between terminal 2 of TB1 and the outpu...

Re: Orac spindle drive problem

I'm not an expert where Orac electronics are concerned, but I do have an electronics background. If the zener is functioning correctly you should be able to measure 10 VDC across it. If this is not the case, then assuming the diode is not short-circuit, which seems unlikely as it's a replacement, yo...

Re: Arc converted to straight lines.

Auto Sketch can create .eps files, but I can't find a way of importing them into VR Milling. The VR Milling help file only mentions importing .dxf and .dwg files. Auto sketch won't allow the .dxf file to be exploded. I notice that the way VR Milling handles arcs has changed during the time I've been...

Re: Will VR Milling 5 run on Windows 10

2D and 3D work fine and I can "run" a .fnc file within them. Post Processor is fine too and generates a .gnc file. The PC in question has NEVER been used to actually control a machine. It's only used to import .dxf files, check the GCode generated, edit as required, and run simulations. Until 15 Sep...

Re: Will VR Milling 5 run on Windows 10

I don't think the fault is with the video card, as it worked with VR Milling until the PC's OS was upgraded from W7 to W10. The drivers are Microsoft's own and are the latest version. Intel, who made the card, have different drivers, but these are only for W7. They can't be loaded on a W10 machine a...

Re: Will VR Milling 5 run on Windows 10

With Windows 10 the program opens normally and it is possible to change settings etc. If the "VR Machine" button is clicked the machine homing window appears followed by the graphic showing the machine. Immediately after this the error message appears and the program locks up. No .fnc file needs to ...

Re: Will VR Milling 5 run on Windows 10

Thanks for the quick response. The graphics card is:- Card: Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) Having googled this I found that only Windows XP and Windows 7 drivers are available for it and there's no intention to develop a Windows 10 driver. Strange then that the P...

Re: Arc converted to straight lines.

It's good to see that Denford are taking an interest in this problem. I don't have a copy of QuickCAM 2D, but as far as I can see this problem is present regardless of the drawing package used. In the Autosketch DXF file the arc is clearly specified as an arc, not a series of arcs, series of straigh...

Will VR Milling 5 run on Windows 10

I've just tried to run VR Milling versions 5.51 and 5.61 on a Windows 10 PC. They start up OK, but as soon as I try to run a .fnc file in 2D simulation I get the error message "External exception 80000003". The program then locks up and the only way out is to start Windows Task Manager and kill it f...

Re: Arc converted to straight lines.

I wish Denford would sort this out too. I also wish they'd sort out the problem with drilling holes when importing an imperially dimensioned drawings which has been outstanding for nearly three years. http://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3903&hilit=DRILLING+HOLES VR Milling 5 is a produc...

Re: Microrouter (2006) No movement all three axis

I'm not an expert on CNC electronics, but I do have an electronics background. With power off all relay armatures should spring back to the released position. It's possible though that a relay could be powered from a charged capacitor, but it should release once the capacitor is discharged. Dependin...

Re: Errors in CNC Programming Help File.

Clicking the info button to close the info works fine if there no error present. However if I try it after the .fnc file (attached to an earlier post) has been run in 2D simulation and returned an error the software locks up and I have to use Task Manager to close it.

Re: Errors in CNC Programming Help File.

I am using a 3mm dia slot drill. I've attached a copy of the fnc file which causes the error. It's possible to avoid the error by inserting a G40 command. This is a problem with the Help File, which doesn't state the need for a G40 command, rather than with the software. I've also noticed. 1. Double...

Re: Arc converted to straight lines.

I have tried both your files, running them in 2D simulation and manually checking the GCode. In both cases the arc is reduced to four straight lines. Tried some experiments and found that VR Milling works OK when cutting for example an 8" radius semi circle. It uses G2 instructions to do this, produ...

Re: Arc converted to straight lines.

Hello and thanks for your efforts. The odd dimensions are down to the original paper drawing having fractional imperial dimensions. I redrew it using imperial decimal dimensions. The curve at the top has a radius of 8 inches. I convert all imperial drawings to metric before importing them into VR Mi...

Re: Arc converted to straight lines.

You'll find DWG and DXF files in the first post in this thread. Most drawing packages should open these. Dimensions aren't shown, but are embedded in the files so you should be able to add them. Dimensions are metric. It'd be interesting to see whether another CAM package does a better job of produc...
