Re: Triac Spindle (Issues)

You can easily test the Sprint drive by disconnecting the 54/55 input wires and using a battery of say 1.5 volts to put a put a safe voltage to the Sprint input you should get around 600rpm, if that works then the Sprint is probably good. I am a bit puzzled what the two Blue wires at the top of the ...

Re: Triac Spindle (Issues)

The two Blue wires with the numbered tags on them that are in positions 2 and 3 in the Green connector at the bottom of the drive shown in your photo are the 0~10v Analog input to the drive, depending on what spindle speed is selected this voltage changes, normally the Max spindle speed on a Triac i...

Re: BT35 Toolholders

Hmmm, as best I remember the Triacs did have at one time a BT35 spindle, that model had a 6 pot ATC and the BT30 version had an 8 pot ATC, that is the easiest way to distinguish between the two just from Photos, look at the ATC if there is one for number of pots :D

Re: Phase converter

The denford is year 2000. It does have 5 core cable but I need to check it actually uses all 5. I will probs go with digital phase converter with sine wave filter if required. I really dont want any issues with blowing boards etc. Thanks for the advice. Ah, only 20 years old then :) :) If it has 5 ...

Re: Phase converter

I would suggest you look at the Digital Type of phase converters, reason is the electronics in the Triac will need a good quality 3 phase supply. Check with Denford what the exact power input requirements are for your machine, contact them with the Serial number, some early Denford CNC Mills require...

Re: 1008 Spindle Drive Fault and 1017 Spindle Drive Overheat

Have you checked the Thermal sensor on the big Balast Resistor ? Fanuc does a full "sweep" of everything to make sure all is OK at startup, as you rightly say a peripheral like slideway oil level will trigger the 1008 alarm so as you also have an overheat alarm I would check that sensor, that great ...

Re: 4th axis for mill

My advice for FWIW is to buy a reasonablby priced 4th axis direct drive or belt drive type, the worm and wheel type wear very quickly unless you pay big money for a high quality one. I have a Sherline one on a Triac and it really isn`t very good, when I get the chance/time to get back into my worksh...

Re: Triac machine advice

A couple of points you raise, on the matter of Servo versus Stepper there is absolutely no doubt that Servos are way better, two reasons, one they hold their rated torque across their rpm range whereas the Steppers do not, two, Servo systems will in all probability have a full closed loop system bac...

Re: Triac Spares, Stepper Drives, Sprint 1200 Drive (eBay)

For the 3 cards I reckon £60 is a fair price, if you want the rack with the main card as well an extra £10, all plus postage or if you are close enough you can collect, I am in Lancashire.

Re: Triac Spares, Stepper Drives, Sprint 1200 Drive (eBay)

Hi Bob I have a rack with 3 cards in it that I took out of a working machine to replace it with modern control and modern stepper drives. All three boards worked at the time of removal but I have no way to test them now, not sure on the numbers but I will check the next time I am down at my workshop...

What type of stepper drives are you after?
The older Black type or the ones that plug into a rack ?? I have some rack type boards if you are interested.

Re: Easimill 3 conversion preferences

FYI USB is well outdated, the best system is via Ethernet connection, virtually bullet proof regarding interference (Electrical "noise" from compressors and the like) Also the USB only runs on 5 Volts and you can only run shortish cables (2~3 Metres) max is usually best, Ethernet will run fine acros...

Re: new jaws

Could possibly be a Bison/Toolmex chuck, if you measure one of your jaws up, length, width, slot and screw pitch and go to the Rotagrip site there is a fair chance you will find the right jaws for your chuck, I got all my stuff from them when I had my 2 Cyclones a few years ago.
