Did you locate another motor yet ?
I ask because I have a spare original motor from a Denford machine, not sure it is the same as you need though.
It runs very quitely and is smooth, 180v PMDC

Re: Cutting left hand threads
Hi Steve Thanks for your reply. I should have added "using the original programming method", the threaading cycle G33 doesn't give provision to thread from the chuck to tailstock, also no G95 available to just do a cylic program. I wanted to use the Orac for this job but will have to run it on my Co...

Bit late but connect as is, power supply from VFD 1 leg to each set of linked terminals.
If direction is wrong interchange any 2 lines.

Printing the program old DOS software
I am still using an Orac by writing the program using the original DOS software, I would like to be able to print the programs written for reference in the workshop.
There is a PRINT option in the program but I am unable to get it to work, anyone have an idea to try ?

Re: Problem with my spindle not starting
Think you asked this question over on the iO Groups Denford Orac group, turned out to be faulty diode/s on the 24v PSU to the VFD, they were short cct so causing the blown fuse, glad to say it's now up and running.

Re: Speed and Feed GUIDE for Denford machines
I would add it is always a good idea to blow the chips away so the cutter doesn't have to cut them again, also a lubricant will help as it prevents build up on the cutter flute/s which if that happens it will leave a very poor finish. Flood coolant does both jobs but is not possible on all machines....

Re: Orac Modernization Spindle Speed VFD
Hi Rob
My Orac is using an original VFD and will take the spindle to 2500, the previous owner must have adjusted the pots to allow
the VFD to go higher than the original settings which state spindle speed of 2000 rpm.

Have you done the conversion already and used the original steppers and motor ?
If so do you have details of the work done ?
Thanks, triac

Re: Z and X and spindle all of a sudden not working
It's an electronic trip and should reset when the Em stop is activated. Something I had previously was metal chips got into the machine light switch and shorted connections, this prevented the axis operating in any way. Martin advised the cure for my problem. Just pull the cover off and check all co...

When viewing the lathe from the back the motor control board is positioned on the extreme right side of the plate.

Re: Z and X and spindle all of a sudden not working
Andy, re the X limit switch, read the last para in my last reply (remove the 2 screws holding the cross slide top cover to view the X limit) When you turn the machine power switch on you should hear a contactor close, control circuits are switched ON/OFF by the relay so if not closing you will have ...

Re: Z and X and spindle all of a sudden not working
Hi Andy, make sure the EM stop is reset otherwise nothing will work, check you are in Manual mode and hold in the override switch on the underside, holding the switch in use the axis buttons to move the carriage off the limit switch/es. To move off the limits move the Z towards tailstock, move X axi...

Hi David
So you are only using Linux for file transfer and storage, not compiling programs in Linux to use with the Orac. ?

Re: Orac Programmed from Laptop & Associated Wiring Connecti
Hi David
Interested to know if your Orac is still in standard form as this is the first time i've heard of anyone claiming Linux or Mach control of the standard machine.
Are you sure your Orac hasn't been converted before you aquired it ?
