Rear tool post

Hi all I was thinking of making a rear tool post for my viceroy gb I have seen on other posts that they used to do a cross slide with 2 tee slots milled in as an extra. However there are drawings available on the forum to Mill your own. My problem is the cross slide as a cast aluminium cover which p...

Viceroy gearbox

Hi All Through a process of trial and error I proved my logic correct. The 16t gear is position 5 on the gear selector lever. To do this I had to remove the gear train to see what the 32T wheel meshed with. It does in fact mesh solely with a wheel on the back shaft that has the sliding wheels for th...

Viceroy gear box

Hi all Finally took the plunge and removed my gearbox front cover. The route cause of my problem was immediately visible and was the right hand tumbler carrier part no ML115/910A was shattered in 3 different parts and the tumbler shaft was lying on the bottom of the gearbox. I have finally managed t...

Re: Drawing ML115/900

Hi thanks for the info. Mine is definitely a metric box. Another thought has just struck me, on the feed and speed instructions from the Denford manual. They go through it step by step and they emphasise that the lathe must be running before you engage left right or middle also for lead screw or fee...

Gear 4.jpg
Hi Richard. I think I have followed your instructions re Shear pin. This is what I found. Notice the splines on solid shaft, could they have slipped out of orientation

Re: Selector Dial stuck

Hi Richard. Will check the shear pin but all the gear train is moving as should, the input shaft to the gearbox is rotating and the end of the shaft which is flush with the side of the gearbox is rotating (as expected) I am meeting the vendor tomorrow and will be raising this with him. Thanks once a...

Front gearbox plate

Hi There is a thread on here labelled feed as speed plate. One of the writers is a person called Pete cnc expert. He shows a picture of the front gearbox cover which has been removed and he cautions the other party to leave the gear selector lever in situ. Is Pete still on the forum I would like to ...

Re: Selector Dial stuck

Hi Richard Thanks for your reply. The input shafts to the gearbox is turning via the gear train With selection lever in neutral and lathe running the dial will not turn. It was turning when I first tried it but was struggling to get feeds working, that was before you explained the stud gears. I trie...

Re: Selector Dial stuck

Hi Thank you all for your info. Just spent the last hour in my workshop trying to free it up. Didnt mention it in my earlier post but neither my lead screw or drive shaft is turning in any settings. Selector Dial stuck

DSC_1126copy.jpg
Hi me again (not so smart Art LOL) After trying to get my head round the different feed setting. following the directions in the denford Manual my selector dial stopped turning and is now stuck I have released the two grub screws and the centre slotted nut but it wont budge. I think something inside the gearbox is jamming. My Q. is how to take off the front plate of the G Box and is this feasible. Any help welcomed

Re: Feed speed chart

Hi Andy removed the stud gear on my lathe as per marked photo.
No letter on it just the number 24 which from your description makes it the "D" gear.
Does this mean I can only use the combination of feeds that has the D listed on the plate.

Feed speed chart

Hi could any body throw some light on the top line labelled "stud Gear" when selecting feeds. Are they referring to "change gears". I can find no references anywhere to the ABCDEFG to which it alludes
