Re: senior mill with R8 spindle

Thanks again for the info Andy. I had a look at TiP manual. It seems to be the same head. I had a look inside the pulley case and there is metal in the casting that looks like it could be drilled for the oil cup and oil ways? I found a coupe of springwell oil points on the head but are for the quill...

Re: senior mill with R8 spindle

Thanks for the info Andy. That would explain no oil points on the head for the spindle bearings. Does the quill require lubrication? What other machines were these heads used on? Is there a reason for no spindle lock? Sorry for all the questions... Information is quite sparse and there doesn't seem ...

Re: senior mill with R8 spindle

Could you post a picture or two of the vertical head on it? I'm interested to see if it is the original TS head casting, the later 'import' style, or something else. Thanks, Andy Sorry after some more looking around it looks like this could be different to a TS head casting. I've attached a couple ...

Re: Triac Z axis counter-balance

Nope but it has only been powered up for an hour yesterday... As I say it all seemed to work okay. It doesn't move as fast as it did in your video but I think that maybe set-up with Mach. Do you happen to have the settings you used in Mach? I'm also trying to figure out the limit switches - the orig...

Re: Triac with servo's

Got everything sorted and back together...

Fired her up and she moves and everything. Next step is to sort the limit switches and cut some metal :)

Did a short video of her running:

Looks like it was an easy fix.
Has it still got the Bob Cambell
Break out board fitted ?

Yes that's still there. It looks exactly the same as it did in the pics you posted in your build thread on here Colin.

I posted some pics I took in that thread yesterday.

Re: Triac with servo's

Hi Colin, I do have a question if you don't mind answering? Earlier in this thread there is a picture of the control box and there is a earth free (as in not connected to anything in the control box) from the Y servo - it is also free at the servo too. When I got the machine it had been connected to...

Had a look tonight - looks like the cap/cover for the encoder got pushed down a bit far and the noise was just the end of the servo shaft catching on the cover.

Hopefully I may get to fire her up over the weekend :)

Just seen this too! I'll pull it apart and have a look.

On a plus note the Z axis is fine it was just the Jib moving and jamming the z axis. As you say - the head falls down on its own without the gas spring :)

Re: Triac Z axis counter-balance

Dave I don't know who you got the machine from but when i sold it there was a spare motor with it , as i was going to put a 4th axis on it . I saw some similar motors on ebay last week . I have just bought a denford microrouter and was thinking about converting it to servos. Colin - sorry I missed ...

Re: Removing Triac Z axis ball screw.

Well - after my mate came around and had a look he noticed the z axis jib strip was moving up and down. We had a look and found a lot of play where the screw head contacts the jib strip and as the Z went up and down it would jam and cause the notchy feeling when the Z screw was moved. We put a bit o...

Removing Triac Z axis ball screw.

Hi, I've recently bought a project Triac. I knew the Z ball screw would probably need replacing but after some advice from Colin on here I have searched and found somewhere that may be able to re-ball it. Clearly I have to take it out and that's where the challenge comes... I've done some googling a...

Re: Triac Z axis counter-balance

Thanks Colin - I will look into re-balling the Z ball nuts if I can. Interestingly I disconnected the gas strut. The force required to lower the Z halved and doubled to raise it - i'd say the strut is still working perfectly. I did have a feel of the Z servo motor - it is very notchy. I checked the ...

Re: Triac Z axis counter-balance

Hi Colin - great to see you are still here and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you if you are happy to answer? I think the z -ball screw will need replacing - the pulley needs grasping with my hand to turn it and it does feel a little notchy. The guy I bought it from said he reckons it ne...

When I first fitted the spring I disconnected the motor and the head went up
so I held the pulley at the top of the lead screw and released some gas, just a little at a time until the Z axis was in perfect balance.
Guess I need to disconnect the gas spring...
